Senior Action’s New Greenville Headquarters Set to Open May 3 with Expanded Services and New Memberships Available

Greenville, S.C. [April 15, 2021] – Senior Action’s new Greenville headquarters, located near the
intersection of East North Street and Howell Road, will open to the public on Monday, May 3. The
nonprofit organization, which connects adults over the age of 55 to vital programs and services to help
them stay healthy, active and engaged in their community, purchased the 32,000-square-foot building at
the end of 2019, with plans to renovate and completely transform it.

“We outgrew our old building years ago,” says Andrea Smith, CEO & Executive Director of Senior Action.
“One in six Americans is over the age of 55. There are more than 84,000 seniors right here in Greenville
County, and Greenville is considered one of the best places to retire in the U.S. In order to continue
addressing the ever-changing needs of our growing senior population, we had to find more space.”
The new building is more than twice the size of the previous one, which had been home to Senior Action
since 2007. Highlights include a fitness studio with exercise equipment and large rooms for health and
wellness classes; a conference center that can seat up to 400 people for special events; and a Fine Arts
Center with music, art, and movement studios specifically for seniors, complete with sound-proof
rehearsal rooms, a pottery kiln and a designated dance space. Caldwell Constructors partnered with
architecture firm Craig Gaulden Davis on the renovation.

“Art and music programs are among our most popular, and they consistently have a waiting list,” Smith
says. “Having a Fine Arts Center creates so many new opportunities to engage our seniors, as well as the
community at large. We plan to host artists-in-residence, senior art exhibits, dance recitals, concerts and
other special events. The opportunities to create beautiful art and music together are endless.”

In addition to creating room to grow and serve more seniors, the new building will also serve as an
additional revenue stream for Senior Action, through conference center rentals and tenants leasing other
commercial spaces in the shopping center. Several existing tenants plan to stay, and Smith is actively
looking for businesses, preferably those offering services for seniors, who may want to move in.

While initial plans called for a late 2020 opening, the timing of the building’s completion is actually quite
perfect. “It’s been a long, lonely year of isolation and social distancing, especially for seniors,” says Smith.
“We couldn’t be more excited to open the doors to this fabulous new building, with expanded
programming and plenty of room for new members, just as people are getting vaccinated and starting to
venture out again. This is a huge step toward helping seniors in Greenville County get back to living their
best lives.”

Senior Action currently serves about 5,000 seniors across 8 locations countywide, offering a variety of
educational programs, fitness classes and social events, as well as access to services like medical
transportation, lawn care, home-delivered meals and affordable housing. With everything from lunch
served each day to line dancing, yoga, bridge, art, band, computer classes, financial planning workshops,
trips – and plans to add quite a bit of new programming in the coming months – there really is something
for everyone. Senior Action also plans to offer extended evening hours to accommodate the large number
of seniors who still work full time.

“Whether you’re a current member who wants to get more involved, a former member who wants to come
back, or someone who’s never been to Senior Action before, we invite you to be a part of this growth,”
says Smith. “Make it a priority to join Senior Action this year, and let us be your place to socialize, meet
new people and try new things.”

Annual memberships offer unlimited access to gym equipment, classes and other activities, while monthly
and a la carte options are available for those who only wish to attend specific classes. Anyone interested
in joining Senior Action is encouraged to call 864.467.3660 and make an appointment to tour the new
space.
